The Caravan Club

To mark the 50th anniversary of the partial de-criminalisation of homosexuality we teamed up with the National Trust again, this time recreating a 1930’s queer-safe club a stone’s throw from its historic location. In achieving this, we collaborated with artists from the modern queer cabaret scene to create an intriguing and highly enjoyable parallel. This lost history was accurately re-created using police photographs, statements and evidence stored at the National Archives. Credits: Production, Design.

The front of the building was papered in quotes found in the National Archive detailing opinions on the club and its patrons.

The interior was a close-as-possible re-creation of the club on the night of the raid.

Each evening it came to life with modern day cabaret artists, before being raided again.
